Auburn – Christopher Dell, former U.S. Ambassador to Angola, Zimbabwe and Kosovo and Deputy Commander for Civil-Military Activity, U.S. Africa Command has thrown his support behind Dr. Shannon Hader in her run for Washington’s 8th Congressional District seat. Read his letter below:
I can’t tell how delighted I was when you called to tell me you were running for Congress. We certainly need more people who embrace your values, drive and commitment in our Congress, regardless of party.
Although I’m not a voter in WA-8, I am an American who has devoted his professional life to the service of our country. Working with you in Zimbabwe, where I was the American Ambassador while you were the CDC country director, I was constantly impressed by your deep knowledge, your hard work, but above all, your willingness to collaborate with colleagues and to find ways to work with the local government in difficult circumstances. You never lost sight of your mission – to help the victims of disease – despite all the obstacles thrown in your way. I can only hope the citizens of WA-8 value those qualities in their elected representative. In these times, we sorely need someone like you who can reach out across partisan labels to pursue the public good despite the temptation to retreat and hide behind convenient untruths.
I only wish I lived where I could vote for you. It would be a signal privilege. Meanwhile, my every thought and hope are with you and I hope the Democrats in WA-8 make the right (and obvious) call next week.
Ambassador (ret.) Christopher W. Dell
Former Ambassador of the United States to Angola, Zimbabwe and Kosovo
Deputy Commander, U.S. Africa Command
