Why I'm Running
Why I'm Running
The people of Washington’s 8th District want action and results - a government that addresses issues that matter in day-to-day life and that supports flexible solutions that meet our specific community needs. They want more than “40,000-foot” divisive rhetoric and generic, ill-fitting solutions. They want - and deserve - a government that works for them. It’s time for our elected representatives to listen to the folks at home and focus on the real problems our families face.
That’s what I can offer the people of the 8th and that’s why I’m running for Congress. I have a solid track record of producing results that change lives, even in the most dire of circumstances. I’ve demonstrated time and again - through hard work, dogged determination, bi-partisan collaboration, and common sense - that I can and will get things done.
As a daughter and granddaughter of union members and Boeing and Safeway retirees, I will support our workers and their families and ensure that our economy works for all of us - not just the favored few. As a doctor, I will fight to expand health care for everyone and defend women’s health care rights. As a native Washingtonian, I understand the need to protect the pristine lands we treasure and will drive the science to curb climate change and lead innovation for a clean energy future. As someone who graduated from Auburn High School, I recognize the value of a good education and outstanding teachers and will fight for public education so that your kids have dynamic opportunities like I did. And as a scientist, I will demand evidence-based decision-making over wild decisions based on fantasy over reality.
We’re at a turning point as a nation and this is an enormously important election. It has never been more urgent to make sure we turn things around and steer our district, state, and country in the right direction. I invite you to read my biography, find out where I stand on the issues that matter most to you, and decide for yourself who’s the best candidate to represent you and your neighbors. Your vote will make all the difference in the world.
